Episode 102

The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy
With the short Radar Men from the Moon

Radar Men from the Moon is a 12 part science fiction serial with Commando Cody (George Wallace) as the lead character. Each episode Cody and his associates do battle with moon men and their hired goons to try and stave off an invasion of earth. At the end of each part Cody appears to have met his doom only to find he survived due to clever editing at the beginning of the next part.

This was Wallace’s first staring role. He primarily worked on Broadway after this.
The real interesting actor is Roy Barcroft who plays Retik, the dictator of the moon people. During the 1940’s & 1950’s he played a villain in 150 films and serials. He appeared in over 350 movies during his long career.

The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy is a 1958 Mexican sci-fy/horror film starring Ramón Gay and Rosa Arenas. It is the sequel to The Aztec Mummy and The Curse of the Aztec Mummy. The evil Dr. Krupp plans to steal a valuable Aztec treasure from the tomb of an ancient mummy. Krupp’s former associate Dr. Eduardo Almada (Ramón Gay) knows the location of the tomb but is determined to keep it secret from Krupp. Krupp, using a spell, kidnaps Almada’s wife Flor (Rosa Arenas) and uses her to find the tomb. Whenever anyone removes the treasure the mummy returns to life. Krupp builds a robot to defeat the mummy, but the mummy gets the better of the robot and kills Krupp. The mummy settles back into the tomb with the treasure.

Rosa Arenas went on to appear in many more productions in Mexico and today works as a writer on a soap opera. Ramón Gay was not so lucky. He was shot to death two years later by “a women’s enraged husband.” Make of that what you will.

This movie is really boring. Its mostly a series of flashbacks to the two previous movies. It’s one of the worst movies to watch that was ever on mst3k.
The Cody episode, like all of them, is unintentionally funny. Cody almost always gets into a huge fist fight each time, yet nobody’s face ever seems to get even the slightest mark on it. The city on the Moon looks a lot like ancient Rome. Also the Moon bares a striking resemblance to the Mojave desert. I wonder why.

This is not one of their better episodes. Not a lot of good riffs and I never really like the demon dogs that invade the ship.

I rate this a 1 out of 5
